Makeup for the Stage( Dance or Musicals)

Recently I found this picture off my computer from the wonderful times of the " Wizard of Oz" and got to thinking on how to recreate this look for other theatrical fanatics. The overall  look  takes 10 minutes and will not cause you to look blank under the lights.

1. To recreate this look first start with a foundation. Personally I really recommend the Neutrogena brand concealer. It is very lightweight and easy to apply. Also it does not look blotted on skin like my first concealer from Mac  ( on the picture the concealer is number 7). Don't forget to apply on your eyelids and on your lips.  And once its soaked in a bit, start padding on your favorite translucent powder to keep you intact during the show ( #6). If more moisture is desired, or a lighter color mix a moisturizing facial cream with your concealer ( #8).

2. Now once your concealer is on, start putting on  neutral yet smoky colors. Apply the lighter color on your brow bones then shimmy the color downward from your eye brows. Next use a shimmery brown color on your crease to give the illusion of larger more in depth  eyes. Don't forget to blend. Then start to apply the darkest color onto the outer corners of your eye starting from your crease outward.

3. Whats stage make up without liner? Nothing basically. So start out with curling your eyelashes and then applying mascara. Do this BEFORE you put your eyeliner so you don't get smudges. Now to put eyeliner I really recommend the Revlon Colorstay( #3 ) . It is the easiest application ever. All you have to do is slowly start in the corners of your eyes and drag the color outward. For added drama try to do a winged eyeliner. Watch this video for more help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZNunI4l-TY

4. Now for lipstick try  a peachy color. If your really daring and the role suits red lipstick, go for it. But for most roles you need a more subtle yet visible color. The trick to applying your lipstick ( and making it smooth) is to apply concealer on your lips before putting lipstick on. The concealer creates a nude canvas for you. Also the concealer somehow soaks up excess moisture from your lips. Now when applying your lipstick try to start in your curved lip area first then outlining your lips to your desire. For fuller lips line the curvy part with white eyeliner. If your lips feel chappy ( lipstick causes my lips to dry up real soon. Horrible for singing) add a bit of moisturizing lip balm over your lipstick and sway away from drinking water from water bottles. Use a straw.
5. Blush has a huge impact on stage. I have started using a cream brush for the first layer ( #5) because it appears brighter on stage. Then if more neutral color is desired, add bit of normal powder blush.
6. EYEBROWS!! Fill them in! Use a eyebrow pencil to reshape them if needed then start slowly coloring moving from the middle outwards.
7. Finally! Your makeup is complete and now don't forget to smile ;)~!!

XOXO
Kat
